Frequently asked questions
What is Crambly?
Crambly is an AI study tutor that learns from your own class. You upload your syllabus, lecture slides, notes, study guides and past quizzes, and Crambly builds a tutor for that one class: it maps the topics, learns how your professor writes test questions, predicts what the next quiz or exam will cover, and quizzes you in your professor's style on what you're weakest at.
Is Crambly free?
You can start free: new accounts get 100 credits after confirming their email, with no card needed. If it's working for you, Plus is $12/month (1,200 credits) and Pro is $22/month (2,400 credits). One-time credit packs are also available, and pack credits don't expire.
What can I upload?
PDFs (including scanned pages), Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OpenDocument, HTML, plain text, and photos of handwritten notes or graded tests. You can drag in whole folders or a .zip of a course. Crambly reads everything and sorts it into folders such as syllabus, slides, past quizzes and study guides.
How does Crambly predict what's on my exam?
It compares what was taught in class, what your study guide lists, and what past quizzes and tests actually asked, then ranks each topic by how likely it is to be tested and writes likely questions modeled on the real ones. A forecast is a prediction, not a guarantee, but it shows you where to spend your time.
Does Crambly write questions like my professor?
Yes. Crambly looks at your professor's real questions (from past quizzes and practice quizzes you upload) and copies their format: how data is laid out, the wording, the blanks, and the style of the answer choices.
How does Crambly know what I'm bad at?
Every answer is tracked by topic and by aspect of the topic (for example definitions, calculations, or reading a graph). A topic only counts as solid after you've answered varied questions on most of its aspects with nothing flagged. Aspects you miss are flagged and come back from a new angle until you get them right.
Is using Crambly cheating?
Crambly is a study tool for learning your material before a test. It isn't meant to be used during exams or to complete graded work. Always follow your school's and your instructor's rules on AI tools.
Does Crambly train AI on my materials?
No. Your materials and conversations are used only to tutor you. They're processed by our AI provider, Anthropic, under terms that don't allow training on them, and you can delete your account and everything in it at any time.
How is Crambly different from a general AI chatbot?
A general chatbot answers from the whole internet. Crambly answers from your class materials only, in your professor's terms, and says so when your materials don't cover something. It also keeps track of what you've mastered across sessions and plans each session around your next assignment.
What classes does Crambly work for?
Any class with materials you can upload: economics, biology, chemistry, psychology, history, business, computer science and more. It works best when you include past quizzes or a study guide, because those show how your professor tests.
Does Crambly work on my phone?
Yes. Crambly runs in the browser at crambly.app on phones, tablets and computers.
